Members of the Virginia Wind Quintet

Keith Hanlon, Flute

Keith earned his B.A. in Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and he received his M.M. from Virginia Commonwealth University in Flute Performance. He served as a military musician for seven years in the United States Army and was former principal piccolo and associate principal flute with the 33rd Army Band in Heidelberg, Germany.
Keith is a founding member and the flutist for the Virginia Wind Quintet. He plays piccolo for the Commonwealth Winds, under the direction of Terry Austin, and is a frequent guest soloist in the Richmond area. Keith is a member of the Keystone Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Jack Stamp, and can be heard with the band on the Klavier and Citadel labels.
His teachers include, Patricia Bickle-Brennan, Carl Adams, Barbara Hois, Lynette Hess-Smith, Francile Bilyeu, and Joey Payton. He has performed in master classes under Michael Parloff, Charles Brinks, Marianne Gedigian, Roger Martin, Carl Adams, Rhian Kinney, Jennifer Conner, Donna Wissinger.
Some notable public performances include Carnegie Hall, New York, Teatro Olypico in Vicenza, Italy, the Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin–Tiergarten and the Rokokotheater in Schwetzingen, Germany. He has also been heard in concert on various radio stations throughout Germany, Austria, Italy and Poland.
Keith currently serves as adjunct faculty for Virginia Commonwealth University and John Tyler Community College.

Jane, Oboe

Lisa Brewer, Clarinet

Lisa attended Stetson University in Florida where she studied with Lynn Musco. While there she was inducted into Sigma Alpha Iota, music fraternity for women, and Pi Kappa Lambda, national music honor society. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education, she moved to Virginia to study with Charles West at Virginia Commonwealth University.
In Florida, Lisa played with various performing groups including the Bach Festival Orchestra, Seaside Music Theater, Bel Canto Orchestra, and Southern Winds. Besides being a member of the Virginia Wind Quintet, she currently plays with the Northern Neck Orchestra, Commonwealth Winds, and freelances with various other ensembles in the Richmond area. Apart from the groups listed above, she has played in diverse musical settings such as a German Band and Medieval Society event (while wearing Medieval attire).
Lisa is currently a woodwind instructor at Harisson’s Music in Richmond and is the music teacher at New Kent Elementary School.

Lindsay Tupper Guerlet, Bassoon

Lindsay Guerlet holds a Master of Music Education degree from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Lindsay has been teaching middle school band and orchestra in eastern Henrico County, Virginia, for seven years. Prior to teaching in Virginia, she spent three years teaching elementary school general music and choir in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Lindsay’s past bassoon experiences include playing as a substitute with the Virginia Symphony, with community bands and orchestras in NC, MD, and VA, and with woodwind quintets in the Richmond area. Each year her private bassoon students are selected for VBODA All-District Band and are eligible to audition for the All-VA Band and Orchestra. Lindsay currently performs regularly with the Virginia Wind Quintet, Northern Neck Orchestra, One Voice Chorus, and the Commonwealth Winds.

Mary Beth Hall, Horn

Mary Beth Hall holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from James Madision University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Her horn teachers were John Cryder and Jeff Bianchi. She is currently the principal horn in the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra and also performs with the Beltway Brass Quintet and the Commonwealth Winds. Merry Beth is an active freelance performer in the Richmond, Virginia area, and s employed as a program director and curriculum developer for a nonprofit organization based in the Washington, DC area.
